Infinal Fantasy XIV circulates a new phishing message that will cost you your account if you are not careful. Scammers are trying to come through a seemingly harmless and random message to your login data.
This message is: For some days, players report in FFXIV that they receive messages from unknown persons by whisper chat. And these messages make some fan of the MMORPG. They talk that the new Addon EndWalker is shifted for a whopping 4 months and seem to provide a source link directly.
Generally, most people know that they should not click on any links of unknown persons. Therefore, the new phishing trick of the account thieves is more sophisticated than the earlier, which promised about money from an African princes.
Here is the curiosity of the players and their anticipation of the EndWalker addon. The link is seemingly accidentally sent to the wrong person and should contain information about the shift of the hot expected extension. The following immediately follows the second message that apologizes for a short time. It is reinforced here as if a real player would be stuck behind the conversation.
If you open the link, you will be redirected to a page that looks like the FFXIV account management portal, the Mogry Station. The site will tell you that you must be logged in to see the news post. But you should not enter your login data under any circumstances, otherwise your account is gone.
Even the hedge through the One-Time Password of your Security token or the smartphone app can not protect you 100% before. If the scammers are fast enough, they can intercept the generated code before becoming invalid.
The reddit thread with the warning about the message has now received more than 2,500 upvotes and in the comments, the players shared their own experiences with the phishing chaters.

Beware to the left
Which phishing attempts otherwise existed? It is far from the first time that in Final Fantasy 14 go around such phishing messages. The veterans among you will therefore be familiar with the pattern. New players who have only recently entered FFXIV or even generally MMORPGs could still be unknown to this method.
In previous versions of the phishing attempt, the cheaters sent approximately alleged terrible news published Square Enix or other links seemingly led to official pages of FFXIV.
Even outside the game, there were attempts to get to the login data of the FFXIV players. Thus, both on Twitch in public chats, as well as on Steam by private message false links were sent wrong links, which the players should bring around their accounts.
The developers have even published an official warning of such phishing attempts to steam.
- The warning with instructions can be found on Lodestone.
In addition to the warning, the devs also give clues on how to recognize false URLs. But with the old proven rule Do not click on any stranger links you are always on the safe side. The fraudster account can then be reported directly to the support.
