On Monday, Czech Republic won 1-0 (1-0, 0: 0, 0: 0) at the Ice Hockey World Cup in Finland and moved into the quarter-finals as the third team in Group B after Olympic champion Finland and Sweden. On Tuesday (3:20 p.m.), the United States is already enough in the last preliminary round game against Norway to secure the fourth ticket for the knockout phase.
Germany can win the group
Due to the surprise victory of Denmark via Canada, the German national team can end the preliminary round as a group winner for the first time in history with a win on Tuesday (11.20 a.m.). The world ranking list Denmark won 3: 2 (2: 0, 0: 1, 1: 1) against the record world champion. Nevertheless, the defending champion is already qualified for the quarter -finals, for which the Danes can now also hope for. One point on Tuesday (3:20 p.m.) against Slovakia is enough to get on.
Italy and Great Britain descended
Italy and Great Britain lost their games on Monday and have thus been a relegated team. The Italians lost 2: 5 (1: 2, 1: 1, 0: 2) in the decisive game. Great Britain was in the lead for a long time before Austria turned and won 5: 3 (0: 1, 0: 1, 5: 1) after two two-goal residues. The two relegated national teams will have to fight for resignation in Division I next year.
Slovenia and Hungary, on the other hand, have already been determined as a promoted from Division I, so the 16 places in the top division are completely awarded according to the ascent. Since Russia and Belarus had been excluded from the World Cup due to the war of aggression against Ukraine, there is still ambiguity as to how the World Association IIHF will deal with the national teams.
