Nikola Jokic will be honored for the second time in series by the NBA for the MVP of the Regular Season in the coming days. Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN reports.
In addition to Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks), the Serb was one of three finalists on the most important Award of the Regular Season. The center was able to take home the trophy in the previous year. Jokic is the 13th player who was able to win MVP awards in consecutive years, most recently this was achieved by Antetocounmpo (2019 and 2020).
The official proclamation of the MVP awards will be announced during the week, presumably on Wednesday or Thursday when TNT transfers. How big the lead over Embiid and Antetocounmpo was ultimately not yet known.
The 27-year-old played an average of 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists in 74 games, plus the NuggetS star hit 58.3 percent of his throws and 33.7 percent of downtown. Jokic was also the first player in the story to show at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists in a season.
Nikola Jokic will be MVP for the second time in a row
It was thanks to him that the nuggets reached the playoffs for the fourth time in a row, although Jamal Murray (cruciate ligament) and Michael Porter Jr. (back) were almost the entire season.
The nuggets won 48 games, which was enough for sixth place in the Western Conference. In the playoffs, Jokic and Co. then had no chance against the Golden State Warriors and documents with 1-4, although Jokic with an average of 31 points, 13.2 boards and 5.8 dimes put on great numbers.
Recently there were rumors that Embiid would prevail after the camera was called "Kia MVP" after his comeback in game 3 against Miami on the official NBA page. However, this was probably only an accident, a short time later there was only talk of "MVP finalist".
Regardless of his second MVP Award, Jokic can already sign an early contract extension in the Nuggets this summer. According to the Bobby Marks (ESPN), a five-year contract of $ 254 million would be possible, which would be the largest contract in the NBA history.
Jokic himself already indicated that he had no intentions to leave the nuggets: "If the offer is on the table, I will of course accept it." Big Man has been playing for Denver since 2015 after the Nuggets selected him a year earlier with the 41st pick - a future MVP was never pulled lower.
